Hundreds of demonstrators marched at noon on Tuesday towards the square in front of the Municipality at Kiryat Malakhi, bearing signs such as "Stop Racism", "We are all Equal", "Stop Discrimination", and "Racism Undermines the Foundations of Democracy". The Ethiopian residents of the town were protesting against the house committees in the town who, they alleged, were refusing to sell them apartments.
Not only members of the Ethiopian community all over Israel came to the demonstration, but also representatives of various sectors of the population, including the weaker groups in Israeli society.
"The Coalition against Racism", which organized the transportation to the demonstration from a few points in Israel, joined with the residents of the town who initiated the demonstration last week, with the Association of Students of Ethiopian extraction and various societies and organizations working for the Ethiopian community. "Racism is harmful to us all, and there should be no distinction between discrimination against Ethiopians in Israel and discrimination against the ArabsRussian speakers" said Sgayar, resident of Shefa-Amr and coordinator at the Coalition against Racism, who came to the demonstration with a small group from the Arab sector.
The Coalition also distributed leaflets at the demonstration, which said that the "Coalition against Racism in Israel demands of the Kiryat Malakhi Municipality, the Government Legal Advisor and all other entities in the State, to deal in-depth with the ugly racist incitement against residents of Ethiopian extraction in Kiryat Malkchi and to exercise the full rigor of the law against those inciting and cooperating against the sale and rental of apartments to Ethiopians."
The leaflet ended with the words: "We shall continue to fight together for a just, egalitarian and non-racist society!"
