The
Coalition Against Racism in Israel severely criticized the Movement for Quality
Government following the lack of inclusion of Arab citizens, Russian speakers, and
Ethiopian immigrants in the 2016 medal awards ceremony, “Knights of Quality
Government,” and, in addition, their lack of inclusion among the speakers at
the ceremony.
The
Coalition Against Racism clarified, in an announcement made by the Director of
the Coalition, Attorney Nidal Othman, that the Movement for Quality Government
is recognized for its struggle for integrity and quality of government in
various governmental institutions, and without the movement, the situation
would be much worse. Nevertheless, these
achievements do not protect against errors, like excluding Arabs, Russian
speakers, and Ethiopian immigrants from the medal awards ceremony.
Although
it was done unintentionally, this was the unfortunate end result, and despite
clarifications from the Movement for Quality Government that the selection of
medal recipients was done on a purely professional basis, an entire population,
who must certainly have among its members people who qualify to receive a medal
and also to appear as a speaker at the same ceremony, was excluded.
Likewise,
the Coalition Against Racism pointed out that it does not wish to denigrate the
value of the work that the Movement does in the Arab community, only that it
needs to translate its work into a picture that is visibly measurable, and requested that this
situation not occur again and that the Movement will
investigate the possibility of fixing the error that was done to the general
public.
